The “Tolerant” Left

January 22, 2014

Gov Cuomo

I don’t want to be political today but I just can’t help it. Because I am a conservative, I have been wrongfully accused of being close-minded, intolerant, racist, sexist, etc… Not because of any specific act, but simply because I am conservative. It is the left’s typical talking points. Yet, Governor Cuomo of New York has stated, in his most left-wing tolerant tone, “extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault—weapon, anti-gay…have no place in the State of New York.” So let me reiterate for you Mr. Cuomo the way I actually think about these subjects instead of simply ignoring your idiotic comments:

Hardcore conservative

1. I am conservative. To me that means I believe in small government and the rights of the individual. I believe that people should be allowed the freedom to achieve individual success or failure on their own. I believe that individual responsibility is more important than preventative regulation. I believe that citizens can manage their lives better on their own than the government can manage it for them. I believe in a strong military and governmental fiscal responsibility. I believe that government entitlements create a citizenry of dependents who become less and less motivated to make their own way in the world. I believe that progress is not about what the government can do for our lives but about what people can do for themselves free of government interference.  I believe in a free market and an unrestricted exchange of ideas and speech.  Despite what you might think, I would fight to the death to preserve your right to make stupid comments about others.

pro-life

2.  I am unashamedly pro-life.  That means I believe that abortion in wrong.  I believe that a baby is a separate being from conception forward.  I am also very sympathetic to those who don’t intend to get pregnant, but do, but I believe in personal responsibility and that means that choices have consequences.  I believe the life of the mother is paramount and should be priority one in a rare situation where the pregnancy puts the mother at risk.  And do I stand firm on rape and incest cases (rare that they are)?  No–the honest truth is that although I think each baby becomes a baby through no fault of its own, I have a heart and would certainly not condemn a woman who made a tough decision in an extreme circumstance.  In fact, I condemn no one for the choices they make in this area–I simply believe a different way–a way that apparently is no longer tolerated in the entire State of New York.  Despite that, when given the opportunity, I’ll fight to change the law in this area–but again I’d fight to the death for you to be able to believe otherwise and express that  belief.

Gun Constitution

3.  I believe in the right to bear arms.  I believe that “gun control” is about control not about guns.  I believe that every society in history that became overtaken by a tyrant started with the removal of guns from the citizenry.  I believe that guns in the hands of bad people are a bad thing but that guns in the hands of good people are a danger to no one–except the bad people. (Charlton Heston).  I believe that ridiculous controls on the number of bullets you can put in a gun or the  number of guns you can own are infringements on  my freedoms and the freedoms of others.  I believe we could learn a lot from the Swiss on this issue.

4.  I don’t even know what you mean by “anti-gay.”  I do not believe in discrimination.  I do not believe that society should discriminate against people because of their relationship choices.  I also do not believe that relationship choices are a valid basis for creating a “protected class” of citizens.    I believe we have been created EQUALLY.  That word has a specific meaning that should not be manipulated.   I believe everyone is entitled to their moral beliefs and views on this subject and I believe that there is no constitutional right for either side of the argument to not be offended by the other’s viewpoint.   People that target aggression, discrimination and hateful actions towards someone because they are gay should suffer the criminal consequences of their actions.  Interestingly, though, taking Gov. Cuomo’s words on their face, if he means that people that personally object to the gay lifestyle should not live in New York, then he is no better than those that would harass someone simply because of their lifestyle.

I have been force-fed a mantra of talking points since the Clinton years that liberals are “tolerant,” “forgiving,” “accepting of others,” “open-minded,” and “compassionate.”  Likewise conservatives are accused of being the opposite.

Well Gov. Cuomo, by those definitions you are one heck of a conservative.  I’ve been to New York Governor, and it’s no Texas–you can keep it.

What The Republican Candidates Should Have Said…

September 30, 2011

I cannot take it anymore.  I have yet to make up my mind about which of these persons I would vote for in 2012.  I only know who I will not vote for.  Let’s be honest–the truth is that I would vote for a diseased cantaloupe carved into the shape of Miss Piggy before I would vote for Barack Obama.  That being said, I, like all conservatives, want the best candidate to win the primary–the one with the most conservative values, the integrity to lead our Country, the courage to make the tough budget choices that are necessary to get us back on track and the one who can most likely beat the current leader of the Free World.

It is clear from the debates thus far that these candidates are unprepared for the questions asked, would rather destroy each other than talk about how Obama is destroying our Country and have developed a number of irritating mantras.  I know I’m not a political insider, nor am I a speech writer—but here are my suggestions on how to handle certain topics in the coming debates.

1.  IMMIGRATION:  If one more candidate talks about how they are an immigrant or their parents were immigrants or they have immigrant friends or anything in that light, I may have to duct tape my head to keep it from exploding.  We know that the US is a Country of immigrants–we also know that Conservatives want people to obey the law and come here LEGALLY.  We also know that people here illegally should be punished just as any other law breaker is punished.  And yes, Governor Perry, I get it that the law here in Texas is meant to possibly address one piece of the problem.  I don’t agree with it–but here is the answer to the question:

“The United States Government has failed Texas and the rest of the Nation by essentially ignoring the problem of illegal immigration.  The Federal Government should have limited roles–but one of those roles is to protect our borders and this President has done nothing to ensure that our borders are safe.  As President I will equip our Federal Law enforcement agencies with whatever is needed to prosecute those found here illegally and force them to follow the law like American citizens are required to do.  I will meet with the leaders of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas and develop a plan with or without their cooperation to seal the Mexican border and demand that Mexico deal with its drug cartel and its border jumping problem.  I will make sure the world knows that America is a land of opportunity, open to all of those who would come here with the intent of following our laws or face the consequences if they don’t.  (and for you Gov. Perry I’d add)-As for the Texas law, this laws was drafted as a way to attempt to deal with the problem of children brought here by their law breaking parents.  It was a bill designed to afford those children, who have applied for citizenship, lived in Texas long enough to qualify, a chance to go to college at in-State rates.  Texans wouldn’t even have to think of devising such laws if the United States hadn’t failed us on this issue for so long.”

2.  SOCIAL SECURITY:  I do not care to hear anymore about what anyone “thinks” about social security or what “buzzwords” they have used to classify it.  I don’t want to hear about what Mitt’s book or Rick’s book or Ron Paul’s imaginary friend has said about it. Say this:

“Social Security has been broken for a long time.  Every election the candidates get in front of America and talk about how broken it is, how it will be bankrupt soon, how we have to fix it and blah, blah, blah.  No more.  The system isn’t broken because there is no system.  People paying into the alleged “system” now are simply funding those who are currently retired.  That is why it cannot work.  As life spans continue to increase and the Country continues to add people into the retirement age bracket, there is more and more money needed to fund it.  It was a good idea in principle but just like GM’s retirement plans that put the company on the ropes, it is a bad idea in practice.  So, what do we do?  We start treating it like an actual retirement plan.  We set up accounts for every American and allow them to either simply pay into the Government account or into a 401K type plan.  As for those who have already paid into it and those relying on it–we have to fund it.  If that means that we have to cut some of the money going to worthless agencies like the NEA or the EPA, then we cut there, but we take care of the problem we created by honoring our committment to those who have paid into the system, pull the band-aid off and start fresh from January 20, 2012 forward.”

3.  UNEMPLOYMENT:  Unemployment is the highest it has been since the Carter Administration.  Not really a surprise there since this President makes Carter seem competent.  Yes, Texas has been doing well–so stop attacking Rick Perry and minimizing his role in the Texas economy.  Mr. Santorum–stop being a jerk.  Stop talking about courage when you spend the entire debates attacking the front-runners.  It does not take courage to attack your opponents, it takes courage to tell us what you really stand for and why that is better than what we have.  Try this:

“Americans know that the only affect the Federal Government can have on job creation is to hinder it.  The Government does not make a product and sell it.  It takes money from products we sell and gives it away.  Not a strategy for a successful business.  As President I will clean house on government regulations and taxes designed to hinder job growth and stand in the way of job creation.  I will work with Congress to lower corporate taxes or eliminate them so that our companies can compete with the corporations around the globe.  I will not take President Obama’s route of reactionary policy by stopping all drilling because of an accident on one site.  If our Steel Industry or chemical Industry shut down every time a worker was injured, we would have no industry at all.  I will leave it to the States like Alaska to decide whether their land is fit for drilling and exploration instead of avoiding the issue to satisfy the narrow-mindedness of the extreme political left.  The best thing the United States Government can do for unemployment is to allow the American worker and company owner to get back to work.  After all, Americans know how to create jobs–they just need the government to get the hell out-of-the-way.”

There is more but I fell the duct tape slipping so I better stop for now and let the blood pressure come down.

One final word for Michelle Bachman.  Ms. Bachman:  I like your views on America.  I like your conservatism.  I understand your position on the HPV vaccination and I agree that Governor Perry was wrong–hilariously, he agrees he was wrong too.  Enough on that topic–let it go.  Get back to talking about you and how our current President is such a dope instead of harping over and over on a subject that simply is not that exciting any more.

Okay–now I’m done for tonight.

Thank You Sarah Palin! I Apologize on Behalf of Those Who Won’t!

July 10, 2009

MICHAEL JACKSON, MICHAEL JACKSON, MICHAEL JACKSON

There, now I’ll probably get 1,000,000 hits to this article in the next 5 minutes.

As everyone is aware by now, Gov. Palin has announced her desire to leave the office of Governor of Alaska.  Since the moment she made this announcement I have been tortured by commentators discussing this matter with phrases like, “what does this mean?”  “If she can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen,”  “this will help her run for President in 2012,” “this will kill her chances for President in 2012,” “she will likely run for Senator,” “maybe there is truth to the ethics violations.”  AAAAHHHH!!!

Republicans and Democrats–SHAME ON YOU!  Let’s review for a minute what has happened.  In the middle of the election process a doomed candidate for the Republican party chooses an actual real-life conservative to run with him on a “conservative” platform.  John McCain chooses Sarah Palin.  She is an instant overnight sensation.  The media begins by talking about how great she is and how she connects with “real” people.  (I guess McCain connected with the “fake” ones).

She begins to give enthusiastic and inspiring speechs talking about an America that we all love where Government stays out of our lives and taxes are lowered and spending is responsible.  She talks about protection for the unborn and gun ownership and entrepreneurship and living an American Dream free of bailouts and National Health Care.  She decimates Joe Biden in a debate despite being the more inexperienced politician.

She willingly and unselfishly gives of herself to the Republican Party in an effort to stop the Country’s slide into certain socialism.  She takes time away from her family and her life in Alaska to tour the Country–even beyond what the Party expected her to do.

And then…

The media, fearing that she might actually dethrone the Obamamessiah and vault McCain to victory begins an all-out assault.  They attack her non-Ivy league education, her lack of foreign policy experience, her comments about seeing Russia from the shore of Alaska, her daughter’s pregnancy, her folksy way of talking.  They call her stupid and ridiculous and cartoonish.  They unscrupulously and grotesquely go for her throat–why?  Because they knew and still know that she is dangerous.  The Democrats know that even if she never runs again, if she campaigns for others, she is a force to be reckoned with.  And so the assualts continue.

The election is over, but that is not enough, the media and the Democrats seek to put her under the ground.  The attacks continue.  Overpaid nuts like David Letterman attack her 14 year old daughter–and the media let’s it go.  But remember, when Obama said kids are “off the table” for attack during the campaign, the media said “you betcha.”

Then ridiculous ethics attacks from Democrats in Alaska surface making issues out of which office she may have given an interview.  And so…for whatever reason–which doesn’t matter by the way…she steps down.

Where are the Republicans?  Where is John McCain?  Where is anyone to defend her?  And now, commentator after commentator takes the few spare moments in between wiping the tears over Michael Jackson’s death to continue the assault.  She gave everything she could to the Republican Party–for who you ask?  For you and me.  Whatever you think of her, she believes in this Country, she believes in Freedom and she gave of herself in service to America–not because she loves John McCain or the Republicans but because she loves America.

So for those yellow-backed, myopic Republicans that don’t have the guts to say it–I apologize on their behalf for their foolish, insensitive behavior toward you and your family and their unwillingness to step up to your defense.  And as for me personally…

Thank you for your service to this Country so far and I hope and pray, that despite the wounds and the attacks, you will find a way to continue to serve us in the future.  But if you don’t, I understand and thank you for inspiring me and others to once again discover true conservative values and ideas.

The Many Faces of Evil

June 12, 2009

As you all know by now, except for the cave-dwelling fans of this site, James W. von Brunn has been charged in the murder of a security guard at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C.  Suddenly every know-it-all psychologist and psycho-analyst and political commentator is struggling to answer the age-old question…

“Why?”

For some reason, every time there is a senseless crime of violence that makes the headlines, everyone wants to dig deeper into the cause–no, no, the ROOT cause of the problem.  It is not enough that Mr. Brunn is crazy.  It is not enough that he is disturbed–the world believes that “evil” just doesn’t exist and if it does, it is too easy an explanation for crimes like this.  It’s a cop-out.  So liberals especially, but all of us to some degree, struggle to understand what would cause a human to do an unthinkable thing.

Rabbi Abraham Cooper, an associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Museum of Tolerance and Harold Brackman, a historian and consultant to the Simon Wiesenthal Center wrote an article for the Washington Times that does not discuss evil, but discusses hate.  In their article they state the following:

“The bloodbath at the U.S. Holocaust Museum is a national wakeup call. Energized by the Internet and inspired by age-old prejudices like hatred of Jews and blacks, a new breed of haters is among us. Whether by organized conspiracy or spontaneous contagion, this breed of haters is sure to spread. We must forge new strategies to meet this deadly challenge. Simon Wiesenthal once said: “I do not judge societies by the number of Nazis but by how many anti-Nazis are prepared to act.”  Now is our time.”

A “new breed of haters?”  They are suggesting we need to “forge new strategies.”  This is a “deadly challenge?”  If that is true, when did the “breed of haters” they are referring to become “new?”  They mention the following:

The Bronx Four” involved prison converts to extremist Islam who were arrested while believing they were planting C4 plastic explosives at a New York City synagogue. Their leader – James Cromitie, aka Abdul Rahman – pointed to people walking on the street near a Jewish community center and reportedly said, if he had a gun, he “would shoot each one in the head.”  Scott Roeder, accused in Kansas of killing late-term abortion provider Dr. George Tiller, boasts in jail that more such assassinations may be in the works.  Abdulhakim Muhammad (formerly, Carlos Bledsoe), accused of murdering one soldier and maiming another at an Arkansas Army recruitment center after returning from a murky pilgrimage to Yemen where he may have become the time bomb reimported into the United States.

The article then goes on to identify the real problem–the author makes the point that these are predominantly “home-grown haters.”  See it is our fault.  In fact it could be argued that it is conservatism that is really to blame.  See this quote from the article:  “One common denominator of today’s violent bigots is the viral medium of the Internet, which supercharged and validated Mr. von Brunn’s hateful vision and also that of white far-right extremist Mr. Roeder.”

Oh, now I get it, the Internet is to blame and of course far-right extremism.  The left LOVES to find crazy guys that think that it is okay to kill abortion doctors and then label them as “right-wing” or “far-right.”  The salivate at the chance.

Yesterday on a local news program I heard an “expert” say that the reason Mr. von Brunn shot these people is in part because we have the first African American President and there is much more tolerance of gay marriage and rights in this Country and because the war in Iraq has feuled the fire of hatred among those who are pre-disposed to such thinking.

(Pause)

(wrapping duct tape around my head to keep it from exploding)  (one more piece….there)

(taking 10 deep breaths and thinking about puppies and flowers)

The reason Mr. von Brunn shot the security guard is becuase he IS EVIL and likely CRAZY!  It is evil at work here.  Wake up leftists, progressives and Statists–EVIL EXISTS.   Human beings can and at times will be evil human beings and crazy human beings.  There is not a “new breed” of haters in the world–there have always been people that hate.  For example, I hate beets, eggplant, “Celebration” by Kool and the Gang, socialism, progressivism, killing of unborn children, temperature over 90 degrees, snakes and a certain Dallas-based airline.   It is okay to hate things.  Hating people is wrong–but so is stealing from them and so is driving drunk and so is attempting to convince us that the government needs to crack down on thought.

I don’t agree with hating people for any reason–especailly race, national origin, color, gender, lifestyle or even being a die-hard Democrat.  But how can we as a society be tricked into believing that hate can be legislated away?  It is madness.

This man is evil–he didn’t kill anyone because Obama is the President (if he did then he is less a hater than he is a nut job).  He didn’t kill the security guard because he hates Jews.  He killed him because he is evil, crazy or both.  And Liberals–Don’t you dare call him a right-wing extremist.  I dare say that lumping him in a catch-all label that includes conservatives is by its very nature “hateful.”

There are many faces of evil–but not every face.  Hatred doesn’t have a face because it is not a state of being, it is a way of thinking–and that, even when repulsive, should not be regulated.  We need to punish evil in our society and accept the fact that when someone does something evil, society, George Bush, Iraq, Big Oil, and Conservatives are not to blame.  The blame for what happened to that security guard rests in the soul of one man–Mr. von Brunn!

In case you don’t get the point, here are some more faces of evil:

Okay so maybe I’m being a little too dramatic, I mean–eggplant isn’t actually evil.

Tax Day Tea Party in Houston

April 17, 2009

Well the 15th has come and gone–the Tea Parties were a huge success.  Interestingly the next day the ratings for cable news came out and CNN was hardly even mentioned anywhere in the top 20.  I am thrilled to be a part of this grassroots movement.  Nancy Pelosi said it was an “astro-turf” movement–doesn’t she wish it was?

If you came out to any Tea Party–thank you for doing so and together let’s continue to fight against the ridiculous direction our government is taking our Nation.  I will be back next week with some fresh posts–but for now–at the request of some relatives I will leave you with these pieces of my speech here in Houston.

God Bless and have a great weekend!

Hey Republicans–Where is William B. Travis?

February 24, 2009

I have begun posting so many times the last month and I just can’t seem to get one out without going into a rant about how stupid this bailout package is.  Well, actually, it is brilliant.  It is a brilliant scheme devised to secure the Government in every aspect of our lives and to lessen if not destroy State autonomy.  And another thing….(Ooops, I did it again as Britney would say).

But today in my attempt to get back to the blogosphere I thought we should reflect on a hero.  In Texas History, today is a day we should celebrate true heroism in a man named William Barrett Travis.  Of course, it is politically incorrect to celebrate this anymore because it necessarily entails discussing the war between Texas and Mexico–but too bad.

William Barrett Travis was the Commander at the Alamo during the war.  For those of you unfortunate souls who reside outside of Texas, let me give you a short history lesson.  The Alamo was a small mission in San Antonio where a small remnant of Texas troops (made up of many non-Texans who chose to help the fight) in 1836 stood and fought a 2000 man Mexican army thereby giving Sam Houston and the remainder of the Texas Army time to mobilize at the Battle of San Jacinto where the Mexican army, led by a dictator, was ultimately defeated.

A remnant of the structure of the Alamo still remains in San Antonio, apparently near the “Crockett Hotel” (does everything have to be about marketing?)

It was on February 24, 1836 that William B. Travis wrote a letter upon discovering that the Mexican Army was soon going to be upon them.  Here is the text of that letter:

“To the People of Texas & all Americans in the world, Fellow Citizens & Compatriots:  I am besieged by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna.  I have sustained a continual bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man.  The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise the garrison are to be put to the sword if the fort is taken.  I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, and our flag still waves proudly from the walls.  I shall never surrender nor retreat.  Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism, & of everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid with all dispatch.  The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days.  If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country. Victory or Death-William Barret Travis, Lt. Col. Comdt.

P.S. The Lord is on our side.  When the enemy appeared in sight we had not three bushels of corn.  We have since found in deserted houses 80 or 90 bushels & got into the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves.  -Travis”

On March 6, 1836, the Alamo was overrun and every courageous Texan, or, every courageous American was slaughtered by the 2000+ Mexican Army.

This is the America I love.  NOT the one where people can show up at a town hall meeting and beg her President for a new kitchen and receive it;  NOT the one where Politicians who have 4 foreclosed homes get to vote on mortgage bailout legislation; NOT the one where instead of passing tax cuts and other legislation to assist America-the government instead digs its claws deeper into all of our lives telling us how we should spend our money and live; NOT the one where you can purchase a house you cannot afford and then blame George Bush or the mortgage industry for your inability to make your monthly payments; NOT the one where “putting skin in the game” means expanding welfare benefits and unemployment benefits at the expense of those who work and pay their bills; NOT the one where it is considered “offensive” to say Merry Christmas, but it is perfectly valid to play songs like “I kissed a girl” on the open air radio waves; NOT the one where the citizens vote on a State Constitutional Amendment only to be told they are bigots and racists and uncaring hateful people for doing so and have that agenda be displayed during an awards show that is meant to celebrate art; NOT the one where diversity is celebrated–but only if you are not a right-wing Christian; NOT the one where Socialism reigns and Capitalism is considered evil; NOT the one where a person can be punished for what he is thinking-even if what he is thinking is offensive; NOT the one where radio stations are forced to have equal points of view under the ironic title of “fairness;” NOT the one where a President can literlly print money the Country doesn’t have and then the next day tell us we are not fiscally responsible and need to “pay as we go.”

The America I love is the one where individual success is celebrated and achieveable; where free markets and capitalism are used to keep us in check, instead of government bureaucrats who know more about fine wine and limos than how to run a business or an industry; where ideas are cherished and allowed to be expressed–even if they cross the line of offensiveness; where the press is free, our speech is free and we are free to worship in any pew we chose; where we recognize that we are ONE Nation UNDER GOD and that “God” is not another word for any person or group of humans on this planet; where we do not bow to the UN or pressure from other Nations to live as they do, but instead live as free men and women, working hard to earn a living and keeping what we earn; where neighbors come out during hurricanes and attacks on our buildings and help each other–without any government interference or need.

The American I love is full of William B. Travises—I know they are out there–and I am BEGGING those who exist in the Republican party to get off their collective butts and stand up against the tidal wave of socialism that is threatening our very existence.  Stand up and fight–despite the odds–because as we all know, once the goverment has its hooks in, they are almost impossible to pull out.

God Bless you William B. Travis–and today I honor your courage and your memory.

Republicans for Obama? I Don’t Hardly Think So.

October 14, 2008

Seriously?  This is absolutely laughable.  The media has already elected Obama as you know.  Tom Brokaw gave an interview two days ago where he said that McCain’s campaign was disorganized and in disarray.  Wouldn’t he hope that were true?

The media along with the Obama camp have really worked hard to elect the most liberal and socialist driven man to the highest office of our Country that has ever run for the job (excluding some individuals who have run under the American Communist party).

As soon as McCain starts to gain ground in the polls, the media says he is finished.  Obama has accused McCain of being Bush #3, which is an outright lie and has joked about the attacks on his credibility associating with terrorists and radical leftists.  And now….as the election draws near, we are to believe that there are actual Republicans who are willing to wear this button.

I’m sorry–I cry foul here.

What is a Republican?

A person who believes in the Republic form of government–the form where the supreme power rests with the people, not the government.  Anyone who actually believes these principles would not vote for Obama-who clearly believes that the government should exercise ultimate authority over every aspect of our lives.

So stop fooling us–we are not idiots.  No REAL republican wears this pin–it is meant to freak us out.

But wait…My crack team of investigators begs to differ–Believe it or not, we have found other similar organizations–so maybe I’m wrong about this.  Here they are:

1.  Christians For The Devil

2.  Mets Fans For The Yankees

3.  Wine Lovers For Mad Dog 20/20

4.  Redskins For The Cowboys

5.  Trial Lawyers for Big Corporations

6.  Dogs for Cats

7.  Jews for Muslims

8.  Ahmadinejad For Gays

9.  Sharks for Vegetables

10.  Hindus For Steak

So, I guess maybe it is possible that these people exist.

My bad.
